Hanukkah Day 3 – Mouth of Truth
Theme
“Our words carry light and life.”
Scripture Readings
Jeremiah 1:9 – “Then the Lord reached out His hand and touched my mouth and said to me, ‘I have put My words in your mouth.’”
Ephesians 4:15 – “…speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.”
Proverbs 18:21 – “The tongue has the power of life and death…”
Reflection
As the third candle is lit, the light begins to take shape, no longer a flicker, but a growing presence. In the Hebrew year 5786, the third letter emphasis is Peh (פ), symbolizing mouth and proclamation.
Hanukkah is not just about light; it’s about declaring light. The Maccabees didn’t just cleanse the temple; they made a public stand for truth. Likewise, in 5786, we are called to speak boldly, proclaiming God’s truth in a world clouded by confusion.
For Christians, this is a call to let our mouths become menorahs; vessels of light that speak life, hope, and clarity. Whether through testimony, encouragement, or truth spoken in love, our words can illuminate dark places.
