Hanukkah Day 5 – Dedication of the Temple

Theme

“We are the temple, dedicated to God.”

Scripture Readings

Romans 12:1 – “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”

1 Corinthians 6:19–20 – “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit…?”

2 Chronicles 7:1–2 – “When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering…”

Reflection

With five candles lit, the menorah begins to shine with fullness and purpose. The fifth night of Hanukkah draws us into the heart of the celebration: dedication. The word “Hanukkah” itself means “dedication,” and in the Hebrew year 5786, the fifth letter emphasis is Tav (ת), symbolizing truth, covenant, and completion.

Tav is the final letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It marks the end of a journey, the sealing of a promise. On this night, we remember that we are not just recipients of light, we are temples of light, consecrated for God’s glory.

The miracle of Hanukkah was not just about oil; it was about reclaiming sacred space. In 5786, God is calling us to rededicate our lives, our bodies, our homes, and our worship. We are the altar. We are the offering.

Prayer

“God of holiness, as we light the fifth candle of Hanukkah, we offer ourselves anew. In this year 5786, mark us with Your truth. Let our lives be temples of Your Spirit, places of purity, praise, and power. May we burn with devotion, and reflect Your covenant faithfully. Amen.”

Practical Application for Christians

Light five candles and reflect on your personal dedication to God.

Read Romans 12:1 and ask God to renew your worship.

Clean a space in your home as a symbolic act of rededication.

Fast or pray intentionally for someone who needs spiritual renewal.

Reflection Prompt

What part of my life needs rededication to God?

How can I make my body and choices reflect the holiness of His temple?

🕍 Key Takeaway

The fifth candle and the letter Tav (ת) remind us: We are the temple. In 5786, we are called to burn with holy purpose.
